Fashion Figure

Mastering the basic construction sketch technique is foundational for creating proportionate and professional fashion figures. Here’s an in-depth look at the key aspects of learning this technique :
- Learn to sketch a simplified stick-figure or “croquis” as the initial framework for your fashion figure.
- Establish proportional guidelines to divide the body into segments, typically using the eight-head canon for fashion illustration.
- Engage in gesture drawing exercises to capture the flow and energy of different poses.
Inspiration and Initial Ideas Development

The creative process in fashion design begins with inspiration and initial idea development. Designers draw inspiration from various sources such as art, nature, culture, or personal experiences. This phase involves brainstorming, mood boards, and research to gather ideas and influences. Designers explore color palettes, textures, and themes to develop a conceptual framework for their collection. Sketches and rough illustrations may emerge as designers translate abstract concepts into tangible design elements, laying the foundation for the collection’s visual identity.
Presentation Day

Presentation day is a crucial event in the fashion design process, where designers present their work to a panel of industry experts, mentors, or professors. This day serves as a formal evaluation and critique of the designer’s collection. Designers present their fashion figures, sketches, and the inspiration behind their work. The jury assesses the creativity, coherence, and feasibility of the designs. Constructive feedback is provided to help designers refine and enhance their concepts. Presentation day is an opportunity for designers to showcase their skills, receive valuable input, and refine their collections before moving forward with the production phase.
